Automated Analysis of Asynchronously Communicating Systems

چکیده
Analyzing systems communicating asynchronously via reliable FIFO buffers is an undecidable problem. A typical approach is to check whether the system is bounded, and if not, the corresponding state space can be made finite by limiting the presence of communication cycles in behavioral models or by fixing the buffer size. In this paper, our focus is on systems that are likely to be unbounded and therefore result in infinite systems. We do not want to restrict the system by imposing any arbitrary bound. We introduce a notion of stability and prove that once the system is stable for a specific buffer bound, it remains stable whatever larger bounds are chosen for buffers. This enables one to check certain properties on the system for that bound and to ensure that the system will preserve them whatever larger bounds are used for buffers. We also prove that computing this bound is undecidable but we show how we succeed in computing these bounds for many examples using heuristics and equivalence checking.

Human-Agent Teams for Extended Control Operations in Space D. Schreckenghost,
At Johnson Space Center (JSC) we have developed automated control agents to reduce human workload by automating routine tasks such as system reconfiguration and FDIR. We have evaluated these control agents for extended periods during ground tests of regenerative crew life support systems that represent analogs of crew systems operating in space. In this paper we describe our experience with the...

This study analyses the concept of cost functions for semi-automated Straddle Carrier (SC), Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) and automated Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) container yard operating cranes. It develops a generic cost based model for a pair-wise comparison, analysis and evaluation of economic efficiency and effectiveness of container yard equipment to be used for decision-making by terminal pla...
متن کاملCompatibility Checking for Asynchronously Communicating Software
Compatibility is a crucial problem that is encountered while constructing new software by reusing and composing existing components. A set of software components is called compatible if their composition preserves certain properties, such as deadlock freedom. However, checking compatibility for systems communicating asynchronously is an undecidable problem, and asynchronous communication is a c...
متن کاملOn Test Case Generation from Asynchronously Communicating State Machines
This paper proposes an approach for generating test cases in Concurrent TTCN from a system of asynchronously communicating nite state machines. We give an algorithm for generating a noninterleaving model of prime event structures from a generalized model of asynchronously communicating nite state machines and deal with the generation of test cases from prime event structures.
متن کاملChecking Asynchronously Communicating Components Using Symbolic Transition Systems
Explicit behavioural interface description languages (BIDLs, protocols) are now recognized as a mandatory feature of component languages in order to address component reuse, coordination, adaptation and verification issues. Such protocol languages often deal with synchronous communication. However, in the context of distributed systems, components communicating asynchronously through mailboxes ...
